The Only Reason to Write Your Screenplay

Here it is - the New Year!

You are determined to meet your goals!

This is the year you are going to fullfill those promises to yourself!

This is the year you are going to follow through on your resolutions!

This is the year you are going to make it happen!!!

Now. Take a deep breathe. Take actually five.

And stop.

Stop making promises.

Stop berating yourself for your lack of follow through.

Just stop. And forgive yourself. Let it go.

Let me confess something. I don't believe in resolutions.

They are too big. They are too abstract. They nearly always fail.

And please frogive me and no disrespect to diets and being healthy.

Your writing is not a diet. It's not a goal.

Your writing is you.

You expressing yourself.

You finding a way for you to make sense of the world and your place in it.

That deserves respect. And care. And space. And time.

Writing is a long game realized by our best, true efforts every day.

Even if in that day it is just one sentence composed. One idea written down.

Your screenplay will be done when it is done.

And it will be done when you choose to make your writing important.

When you choose to do the hard, but fullfilling, work.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."

- Aristotle

Let go of resolutions and commit yourself to habits.

The start of any story is a question demanding to be explored. Not answered, neccessarily.

The only reason to write your screenplay is because you have to.
